Cash-strapped Brits convert to caravans for family holidays
July 2009

UK caravan holidays are becoming more and more popular with the great British public turning their backs on foreign destinations in the tough economic climate.

According to a survey carried by IM Financial Services Limited, more and more holidaymakers are shifting their attitudes and choosing caravan holidays in the UK as they look to save money in the recession.

The poll revealed that 89% of respondents surveyed would now be tempted to buy a caravan to holiday in the UK, rather than fly to foreign shores. Nearly two thirds of those questioned said the increased cost of the Euro would now tempt them to buy a caravan and holiday on British shores, despite never going caravanning before.

Over half of those who would now consider buying a caravan, had previously been on a caravanning holiday in the UK.

The survey results back claims in the recent Channel 4 documentary, 'Undercover Boss', which examined the comeback of the 'Great British Holiday' at Park Resorts and how UK holidays are becoming more popular with the great British public.

"The results of the survey and the documentary on Park Resorts show that cash-strapped Brits are reverting back to more traditional family holidays in the UK, with caravanning offering a more cost-effective alternative to European travelling," says Nelson Drinkwater, Divisional Manager of IM Financial Services Limited.

He added: "We work in partnership with caravan dealers and parks to finance their customers and have witnessed positive indicators during 2009 of increased early booking levels during the school holidays. With the good summer forecast predicted for 2009, we are positive that this trend will continue and Brits will take advantage of the many benefits of caravanning in the UK."

A spokesperson from the National Caravan Council, added: "Anecdotal evidence from dealers across the country confirms that sales of pre-owned tourers have been healthy for the last year - so much so that dealers have little to sell in some price ranges."

"Auctions (physical and online sites) are also doing brisk business. This market is being driven both by existing owners upgrading and new people entering the marketplace. Consequently, park bookings are up, as is membership of both consumer clubs."

Combining over 60 years knowledge and experience in the industry, the IM Financial Services Team has continued to grow the business by reacting quickly to changing market conditions and offering bespoke financial solutions to meet the individual needs and requirements of dealers and parks, and their customers.
